Super Bowl Predictions

Super Bowl Predictions

Super Bowl Predictions

It is still early I know but not early enough to start making those 2005 Super Bowl predictions.  With 7 more weeks left in the regular season we can gage which teams are on the upswing vs the toughness of their schedule ahead compared with those franchises that
will be spending their post season in the Caribbean sipping Bacardis.

The most likely candidates to participate in the 2005 Super Bowl would be the more obvious: New England, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Indianapolis.  At the time of publication, Pittsburgh had one of the best records in the league and even handed the only undefeated team, Philadelphia, its first loss of the season last week.

Pittsburgh, entering the season, had payout odds of +4000 to win the Super Bowl.  Not too shabby considering a $100 future bet would yield $4000 and a $500 future bet would result in $20,000.  Shall we go on?  Pittsburgh shows no sign of letting up either.

With its current intensity Pittsburgh should breeze through the remainder of November with wins on the road against Cincinnati and a home game against Washington.  December gets tougher, whereby I expect the Steelers to go 2-2 to finish off their spectacular season.

But early 2005 Super Bowl predictions almost certainly have to feature the red hot New England Patriots and unfortunately for the Steelers, New England shares their conference.
Regardless of how New England fares the rest of the stretch, they are almost certain to get into the playoffs barring a team tragedy (i.e. the team flight crashes).  And with the likes of Miami, Cincinnati and Cleveland on tap, even a plane crash might not stop the surging New England Patriots.

Still, I gotta go out on a limb and choose the underdog here – My early 2005 Super Bowl prediction is that Pittsburgh will play in the big one.

Of course my early 2005 Super Bowl predictions would not be complete without selecting which team will represent the AFC.  Philadelphia is looking as sharp as they come at this juncture in the season so I will have to say they will go all the way and it
will certainly be interesting (or dull depending on how one looks at it) to see two Pennsylvania teams featured in the Super Bowl.

Never-the-less, predictions are just that – predictions. As such we might want to consider some of the likely competition entering into the final weeks of the NFL regular season.

In the AFC we have The Jets on a noticeable downswing; San Diego, Baltimore, Indianapolis, Jacksonville and Denver on an upswing.  San Diego, with its unbelievable +10,000 odds to win it all early in the season, will be in for quite the challenge with a game in
Kansas City (never easy to play there despite the Chiefs underachieving this season), Denver and Indianapolis (though the later team may not play to full capacity depending on their standings in the second to last week).  Truth be told, the Chargers have the potential to go 5-2 heading down the home stretch and this could be a team others will take less seriously during the post
season.  Something to always keep in mind when making those early 2005 Super Bowl predictions….So there is still hope for those who had the Chargers with +10,000 odds.

With the NFC we have red hot Atlanta, which went undefeated its first few games despite struggling against sorry opponents.  They’ve since proven their worth by beating both San Diego and Denver, but they’ll have to get past Philadelphia ultimately….and that will be a tough challenge indeed.

Quite frankly, nobody really stands out in the NFC outside of Atlanta to take on the Eagles.

Again, my 2005 Super Bowl predictions: Pittsburgh vs. Philadelphia.

NFL Draft Predictions

2003 NFL Draft Predictions

2003 NFL Draft Predictions by 1800-Sportsodds
For this year’s NFL Draft predictions I am going to focus on the skilled position of quarterback.  This years quarterback class is very strong and includes Byron Leftwich from Marshall, Carson Palmer of Southern Cal, Rex Grossman of Florida, Chris Simms of Texas and Kyle Boller from Cal Berkley.

My NFL Draft predictions are for the quarterbacks to be taken in the following order:

1.) Carson Palmer, Southern Cal – Carson Palmer is a lock for the first pick overall by the Cincinnati Bengals.  I don’t even consider this a prediction because it’s a fact!

2.) Byron Leftwich, Marshall – My view is that the Chicago Bears need Byron Leftwich at the 4th pick, but he would fit perfect with the Baltimore Ravens at the 10th pick overall.

3.) Chris Simms, Texas – Because of Ricky Williams stellar performance as a Miami Dolphin, the New Orleans Saints have back to back picks at 17 and 18 overall.  Look for the Saints to make a trade to the Dallas Cowboys for Chris Simms.

4.) Rex Grossman, Florida – Rex Grossman was coached by Steve DeBerg in the off season, making him a perfect developmental quarterback for the Miami Dolphins to groom, but they don’t have a NFL Draft pick because of their trade for Ricky Williams.  So look for the Pittsburgh Steelers to take Rex Grossman at the 27th spot.

5.) Kyle Boller, Cal Berkley – Going for a home town kid, the Oakland Raiders will select Kyle Boller to close out the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft.
